Starting at Scar House reservoir the route crosses over Little Whernside before ascending onto the Great Whernside plateau and traversing the whole length of the ridge. After visiting Mossdale the route returns to Nidderdale via Riggs Moor and finally crossing Armathwaite Moor before returning to Scar House reservoir.
The route covers an area that is rarely travelled and offers extensive views across Nidderdale, Coverdale and Upper Wharfedale, weather permitting.

Race Requirements
The Nidderdale Road to Nowhere is held under FRA rules and therefore the use of GPS equipment for navigation is not allowed. The use of GPS equipment is allowed for the purposes of recording your route and displaying the distance covered. The GPS device can be used in the case of emergency.
FRA mandatory minimum kit is compulsory, this includes:
- Full waterproof body cover (this being waterproof trousers and jacket that must include integrated hood both waterproof items must have fully taped seams).
- Hat
- Gloves
- Map (waterproof map will be supplied to each entrant)
- Whistle
- Emergency Supplies
Entrants are responsible for their own food and water during the race
Kit will be checked prior to the race number allocation; entrants without the correct kit will not be allowed to race.
To comply with YW bio-security requirements can competitors please ensure that their kit is clean and dry prior to attending the event.
If you do use a GPS device for the purposes of navigation during the race you must declare yourself as non-competitive on completion of the race.
