Race Information

Key Points

  • Race HQ and race start are at Nidderdale Showground, Pateley Bridge, HG3 5BD.
  • Race starts at 10am, registration starts at 8.30am.
  • The showground has multiple events taking place on the same day; some of which are private, so please be mindful of this when moving around the showground. Race HQ is at the back of the showground – head for the blue and teal tent and Nidderdale Fell & Trail flags.
  • Please use one of Pateley’s many public car parks, or park respectfully if parking on residential streets. There is NO PARKING on the showground field itself.
  • Toilets are a 5-minute walk from race HQ here.
  • Bring a cup/bottle/soft flask for the water stations.

Location

The race starts and finishes at the Nidderdale Showground, Pateley Bridge, HG3 5BD. There are several events taking place on the Showground on the same day, and race HQ is located towards the back end of the ground (see here for location). Look out for our navy and teal tent, and Nidderdale Fell and Trail flags for race HQ/registration.

Parking

There are several very cheap public car parks in Pateley – please bring change to pay for parking; card is not accepted. Alternatively, if parking on residential streets, PLEASE park respectfully, as we need support of the locals to keep running this race.

Public parking

  • Showground Public Car park (this is closest, but will probably fill up quickly. £1 half day or £2 all day).
  • Southlands Car Park (~£1-2.20 depending on duration). This is the next closest car park, and also has a public toilet, and is close to Wildish Cafe – see below re: discount on coffee!).
  • Nidd Walk Car Park (80p for 4-hours).
  • Riverside Car Park (£3 per day) This is just under a mile from the showground, but it will be the quietest, since it’s been opened up especially for us!

Please DO NOT try to park on the showground field itself. There will be cars parked on the field, but these are for another event.

Registration and start time

Please collect your race number from the blue and teal registration marquee. Registration will be open from 08.30am.

The race will start at 10am. A pre-race briefing will be held 5 minutes before the start of the race.

Food, water and toilets

Water will be available approximately 2-miles into the route (after the first main climb), and will be available at the finish. We will have a small number of paper cups, but we strongly encourage runners to bring their own drinking vessels, to minimise waste.

North Pizza will be on site selling a range of hot foods (including bacon butties, halloumi wraps, and pizza), as well as cold drinks. We will also have cake for a small donation (funds going to our chosen charities). Please bring some cash! Our friends at Wildish have also offered a 25% discount on coffee. All you need to do is present your race number at the counter. Wildish is open from 9.30am-4pm. Closest toilets are a 5-minute walk (or 2-3 minute jog) away here.

Course information

The course for the trail race is nearly exclusively trail with just a small amount of tarmac. The route takes you up through Guisecliff Woods, onto the moor and across to the Trig point which has some stunning views. You will then head along the Nidderdale Way past the famous ‘Two Stoops’ before dropping back down into Bewerley and back to the showground. Once you finish the race please stay in order through the finish chute.

The route is mainly on public rights of way. We do not have exclusive use of these, so please be respectful of any other trail users you may meet.

There are uneven surfaces including grassy fields, dry rutted trails, peat moor and plenty of roots and rocks along the way. The descents are technical so please take care. On the short sections of road please keep well to the left. There are four road crossings; marshals will be present so please follow their advice.

There is a short out and back section from the mast to the trig point where there will be runners going in both directions. Please stay in single file and keep to the left.

The course will be fully marshalled and marked. Link to GPX below.

Please note we DO NOT have any kids races this year, due to limited space on the showground.

Runner safety

First aid support is available on the route. If you require assistance, please contact the nearest marshal. For any serious medical emergency please call 999.

If you wish to retire for any reason during the race, please walk to the nearest marshal and hand in your race number. Please do not just leave without letting a race official know, as we need to account for the safety of all runners.

Please bring any personal medication you may require (e.g. inhaler, EpiPen).

Race photography

There will be photographers on route so please smile for the camera (if safe to do so – perhaps not on the technical downhills!). A link to photos will be made available on the race page of our website.

Prizes and results

There are prizes for:

  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd in open and female categories.
  • First place open/female in V40, V50, V60 and V70 (if applicable) categories.
  • First open and first female team (open can be men only, or a mixed team; all runners must be from the same club).
  • Spot prizes (to be drawn at random). Every runner is eligible.
  • £50 for breaking the course record. Since the course has slightly changed since last running, the times to beat are 41m for men, and 51m30s for females.

We will aim to do the prize presentation at approximately 11.30am.

Race results will be posted on the SiEntries website after the event. Please allow a few days for these to be compiled.

Race rules

Please follow marshal instructions at all times. Headphones are not permitted. There are no mandatory kit requirements, but please come appropriately dressed for the weather, bearing in mind parts of the route are on relatively high and exposed ground.

Any children spectating must always be supervised. Please note there may be vehicles moving around the showground, and other events taking place.
